R6 Marketplace Beta

R6 Marketplace Beta: The Complete History From Announcement to Full Launch

What Was the R6 Marketplace Beta?

The Rainbow Six Siege Marketplace is a web-based platform that lets players exchange items for R6 Credits, the game’s premium currency. Players can find rare and exclusive items that are no longer available in the game or sell their unwanted items for R6 Credits. Before this platform was open to everyone, it went through an extensive beta testing phase spanning well over a year, one of the longest beta periods in Siege’s history.

The Announcement | October 2023

Ubisoft announced the Marketplace concept during a developer livestream in October 2023. During the announcement, the developers claimed players could sell and purchase skins from other players through the marketplace. However, the system was still under development and would bring a wide range of trading options to R6 players.

The community reaction was enormous. The announcement generated immediate excitement from players tired of duplicate cosmetics with no way to trade them. For context, Rainbow Six Siege had been running for eight years at that point, and players had accumulated massive inventories with no official outlet to trade them.

How to Sign Up for Beta Access

To sign up, players had to navigate to the official Rainbow Six Siege Marketplace beta website, click the Register button, enter their Ubisoft login details, agree to the terms, and wait for an invite. Once registered, Ubisoft would send a confirmation email letting players know if they had been accepted into the closed beta program.

When a profile got approved by Ubisoft, the player would receive an email with detailed instructions on how to access the Closed Beta, allowing them to start buying and selling weapon skins, charms, and more in exchange for Credits.

Beta Rollout | Wave by Wave (January 2024 Onward)

The Marketplace was released in a Beta phase on January 30, 2024, to a small number of players who had pre-registered.

Ubisoft did not open the floodgates all at once. Access was carefully rationed in waves to monitor server load, catch exploits, and gather targeted feedback. The first wave of marketplace beta access rolled out to select players in January 2024. A second beta wave then invited 50,000 additional players across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

The official Rainbow Six account on X confirmed additional waves as they went live, posting: “New waves of invitations for R6S Marketplace Beta have been successfully delivered throughout the week! Check your emails to see if you were selected.”

What Was Available During Beta?

The marketplace functioned similarly to the Steam marketplace: a buyer could list an item and the price they were willing to pay, and the system would find a suitable seller offering the same price. Similarly, sellers could list their items for sale at a certain price, and the system would find a suitable buyer willing to pay that amount.

The Ubisoft marketplace incurred a 10% platform fee. Items from the current season would only become marketable once the season ended. Players could post up to 5 different purchase and 5 different sale orders at a time.

Not everything was tradeable from day one. The Marketplace underwent several updates during beta, one of which increased the items available for trade. A notable controversy emerged when Streamer charms that were part of the Twitch Content Creator program were briefly listed. Players were able to trade them for a short time before they were quickly delisted.

Beta Requirements

Throughout the beta period, access gates were kept deliberately tight:

  • Clearance Level 25 earned through regular gameplay
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) active on a Ubisoft Connect account
  • A verified email and a Ubisoft account in good standing

The Marketplace was accessible via browser and mobile devices at rainbow6.com/marketplace. It could not be accessed through Ubisoft Connect directly at the time.

Scale of the Beta

By the time beta concluded, the program had grown substantially. Closed beta testing began in late 2023 with a small group of selected players and expanded in waves through 2024, eventually reaching over 200,000 players, roughly five percent of the active Siege player base at the time.

From Beta to Full Launch | June 2025

With the release of Year 9 Season 1 Operation New Blood, the Marketplace full release benefited players above Clearance Level 25 who had two-factor authentication enabled, giving them instant access to the website without any further need for registration.

The full public launch arrived on June 10, 2025, tied directly to the Siege X update, the largest content overhaul in the game’s ten-year history. The beta registration page was retired, and the platform became open to all eligible players globally for the first time.

Legacy of the Beta

The beta period was more than a test run, it fundamentally shaped how the Marketplace was built. Security measures were refined, order-book matching was tuned, and the list of tradeable items was expanded based directly on player feedback. As the years passed, the features of the marketplace improved, ranging from enhanced security measures to more streamlined designs.

The beta’s careful, wave-based approach also made the eventual December 2025 security breach all the more jarring, the very platform that had been tested and hardened over 18 months was taken offline in under 30 minutes by a single exploit. It now awaits its return during Operation System Override (Y11S2), carrying all the lessons of its long beta journey with it.
